Holy out of touch, I haven't blogged very well in like what, two weeks? Oh good lord, I just looked, I haven't written since...October. I remember the days when I would blog daily without fail. Of course, this was also pre-evil-math-class-of-doom-that-0wNz-me and pre-moving to awful little collegiate town, after which everything has seemed to change. Blarg. Ah well. Plus, since I've moved into town, Matt is predictably with me more often than not, which is something I enjoy heartily. However, I also do not blog in front of other people, it's one of my silly pathology paranoid privacy things. Because I've always known I'm a private person, generally for good reasons (in my opinion) in regards to my family, specifically. However, it's coming out more and more that my privacy may possibly be a bit overwhelming, as find myself shielding trivial things of myself from Matt because I suppose I fear his reaction. An example is my Angel Cage book (Angel Sanctuary artbook, courtesy my dear friend Lindsay from back in the day in Alabama), which I deliberately didn't show him, because I feared he'd label it "whiny goth crap" but interestingly, he found her [Kaori Yuuki] an acceptable artist. I think I am getting somewhat better though, seeing as busted out my Two-Mix and TM Revolution CD's the other day and we listened to them. Heck, there's no going back after that...but anyway, that's another why I don't blog with great frequency as of late, among school and work and all that rot.

I'm happy, I finally started getting paychecks of decent size from work so aside from rent now I actually get to keep some of my cash, w00t! Anyway, I'll continue with my story. I usually go home (meaning to the home of my family) on the weekends, to wash clothes because I have a pathological fear of the washing machine of my apartment complex, visit, play the piano, visit my darling etc..anyway, on this particular day I had convinced my mother that we should go to this fabulous Vietnamese restaurant because she can dig the Asian cuisine, and in doing so, allowed us easy proximity to one of the three malls 'round these parts, particularly the one I used to frequent with Bak-chan nigh-weekendly as a youth in junior high. This was probably not a good idea, because I naturally immediately trekked upstairs to the Software Etc. store, a place I have many fond memories of playing the Final Fantasy VII demo in repeatedly (yes, Final Fantasy VII. I suppose I don't really perceive the age of that game, belying the fact that I'm getting old now) and when I knew everyone there and vice versa...anyway, I just happily look around, revelling in my poor college studenthood, until IT attracted my attention: yeah baby, Gensou Suikoden III. As one might imagine, I emerged from 'neath the violet glow of yon Software Etc. $50 lighter and a handful of hot Suikoden action happier, yeehaw. Until then I stopped and remembered that I actually purchased it at Babbage's, which has no violet glow, but they're owned by the same company so it works, ja? That's what I thought. Of course, there's also a rather sad aspect to this story-you know my blogging frequency? Yeah, it's sort of synonymous with my game-playing frequency, save for that I can do it in front of Matt, so I've managed to clock in a whopping three hours of gameplay in the two weeks that I've had it, and I should've probably been studying for something anyway. Anyway, I digress-what I have played I have enjoyed, though I do have a couple of gripes. First and foremost, the music-from what I've heard, which is admittedly far from much (though I listen to Matt playing, and he's gotten considerably farther than I), is of a definitely noticable lower quality than the other two games, which makes me very sad given I have sort of an obsession with Suikoden music. So that's a big thing in my book, although it does have some good music. Still...there's the battle music, which I can only describe as "fruity". And unfortunately, it's the random battle music, and it's not good. Battle music is not "fruity". Still, I suppose one can learn to ignore it...another thing is graphics, which is something odd for me to complain of. As anyone who cares about the Suikoden series knows (which would include...me and yeah...me), this is the first game they've gone 3D with (all the previous ones have been 2D) and it's very...N64. Which, when it's on a PS2, is a bad thing. This is a very good representation of why I have a strong dislike for 3D games-blocky blocky models. This is admittedly an outdated stance, as it's probably my vestigial reactionarism from when the age of 16-bit died, and 3D graphics have come a very very long way; Final Fantasy X is a very good example of decent 3D graphics, given the game is frightfully gorgeous. So perhaps I've just been spoiled, but give me pretty 2D over detail-less 3D everyday. I had always hoped in my little heart of hearts that as Suikoden progressed it might shift over to the Breath of Fire III/IV style, a rather nice 3-1/2D style, but alas...oh well, given it IS their first 3D Suikoden, I'll grant some leeway; look at Final Fantasy VII for heaven's sake. But enough of complaining of Suikoden problems, because it does have some good things-such as the ridiculously keen opening movie and music, the personality of the series which has been kept intact, pretty pretty character designs, runes leaking out of everyone's rectums, and it's just in general fun. But we're going to take a break for a moment, because I really need to eat breakfast. Look for me a bit later.
